Enabling Fleet Operations Across Europe
UI/UX Consultant • Ancotrans, DK (Enterprise)
For Anders Nielsen & Co A/S (ANCOTRANS, 1882), a logistics company with over a century of operational history, that clarity had begun to erode. Their fleet tools were powerful but dated, fragmented across platforms and increasingly difficult to use as operations expanded across regions.

The Software Struggled to Support Fleet Managers and Drivers
ANCOTRANS managed 850+ trucks operating across Denmark, Germany and other Northern European routes using legacy web and mobile systems.
While functional, these tools created daily friction. Fleet managers struggled with dense dashboards, unclear vehicle states, and workflows that didn’t reflect regional complexity. Critical decisions required unnecessary cognitive effort.

At the same time, drivers relied on an Android app that was difficult to use in real driving conditions—long checklists, poor accessibility, and inefficient inspection flows. The systems worked. The experience didn’t.

I led discovery and research with fleet managers, drivers, engineers, and stakeholders to map real workflows—dispatching, tracking, inspections, and handovers happening across borders and time zones.
Two realities shaped every decision:
Fleet managers needed regional visibility at a glance, not more data
Drivers needed speed and clarity, not complexity
The challenge wasn’t reinvention. It was simplifying complexity without losing control.
Change Management & Design Constraints
We introduced a unified design system across web and mobile. Standardization of navigation, components, and hierarchy while preserving familiar workflows.

Large operational teams don’t adopt change easily and for good reason. Change management became a core design constraint. This allowed the platform to evolve without forcing teams across different regions to relearn how to do their jobs. The system felt modern, but still recognizable.
Fleet Management, Built for Regional Oversight
The redesigned Fleet Manager experience was centered around a real-time, map-first view of operations across Northern Europe.

The interface prioritized:
Clear visual differentiation of vehicle states across regions
Progressive disclosure for advanced controls
Contextual alerts instead of disruptive notifications

Fleet managers could quickly understand what was happening in Denmark, Germany, and beyond—without switching tools or losing situational awareness.
Designing for Drivers on the Move
The driver app required a different lens. This was software used across highways, ports, terminals, and depots—often under pressure.
The redesigned Android app focused on:
One-tap navigation and task progression
Visual, simplified inspection and chassis checks
Bulk image uploads for faster reporting
High-contrast UI for outdoor and low-light conditions

By aligning with material design and iOS HCI standards, we removed friction from the most critical moments of a driver’s day.
After the Redesign
ANCOTRANS now operates on a single, dependable system that brings clarity to cross-regional fleet operations. Helping managers see faster, drivers work smarter.
